Slime and Art

Elyana has been really enjoying the programs they have been doing at church lately. One of them used a neat slime recipe. Each age group was given a story from the bible. They were asked to make a picture of the slime to represent the story. The program they are doing now gives each group a bag of miscellaneous props. They have 10 minutes to assign rolls and figure out how to use each of the props in a skit. It has been so neat seeing my shy Ellie hop up on stage to be silly and yet is learning bible stories. We got the slime recipe and she has been playing a lot at home with it. She discovered that you can blow into it with a straw and inflate it.

This year I have cut back my hours so I am only teaching art (which is one morning a week). Here is a picture of my bulletin board at school that I finished the day before school started. I decided I needed a new sign to point parents in the right direction of my class. I painted an ocean picture (inspired by my trip to Florida). I can't wait to start to paint more. I want to paint two more to put in my girls beach-themed bathroom.

The girls and I visited one of our local orchards. We had fun exploring their corn maze, climbing hay stacks, and picking apples.

The girls both started new schools this year. The hardest part of that for them was that they were not at the same school anymore. Elyana is now at Gibbs Elementary and Mikayla is at John Adams Middle School.

Vegas!

Nate was asked to go on a business trip to Vegas a week after I got back from Jacksonville, FL. I decided to join him after I taught my first class of the school year. Mayo Clinic had reserved an awesome room at the Venetian Hotel. His airfare and food was paid for also. We ended up sharing his food allowance since it was plenty. So, I just had to pay for my airfare. The only thing that was a bummer was I had to come back early for a preschool event. I would have loved to stay another day and fly back with Nate. While we were there we got to go to the Stratosphere where Nate went on a ride that took him over the side of the building. We enjoyed a very fancy dinner and I got to get acquainted with his coworkers. Our other night in town we went to see a very cool and fun show called the Rock of Ages . I went to the pool each day and was able to catch on some school work.

There was a store in the fancy shopping center where you could buy an oyster shell. There was a guaranteed pearl in each and they would then put in in a jewelry setting of your choice. Very neat!

Jacksonville, Florida

I had a rare opportunity to save up my money and visit my old work assistant/friend, Christie. I flew out with another friend/co-worker, Ali. We had such a nice time together. I really miss her tons. We are planning out another visit next summer, this time with the whole family.
